Do you have days when (you knew you should'nt have) - but you overindulged. Slipped up and let your clean diet go on the wayside whether its a family festivity, or an outing with friends or just caved in and got that treat you haven't had for so long! If you've been on a clean eating plan for awhile, your system may not be able to tolerate processed or fast foods well. So it's time to send down some superfoods to help cleanse your digestive system and liver.

The prime ingredient in this tangy smoothie are beets. Not only are beets full of antioxidants to fight diseases, boost eye health, improve blood flow, they have lots of fibre to aid in digestion, beets also contain betaine which helps liver cells eliminate toxins.

Added to the beets is a whole orange - include the rind as it adds more fibre and more nutrients than the fruit. Don't throw out the fresh nutritious beet greens, which are good for so many vitamins, protein, phosphorous, zinc and fibre. Spinach is a good substitute if your beets didnt come with the greens. Fresh ginger is an anti-inflammatory and may relieve nausea or intestinal discomfort. Throw in some organic unprocessed tart cherry juice to strengthen the immune system, reduce muscle soreness and other great benefits. Frozen unsweetened raspberries for more antioxidants and anti-inflammatory properties. This fresh, cleansing smoothie is very tart with the orange rind, ginger and tart cherry juice. I add natural monk fruit sweetener. Then chug it back and enjoy!

Start the smoothie by gathering the freshest organic ingredients. Straight from the garden or farmers market where the beet leaves are still rigid and not wilting.
Beet Citrus Ginger Detox Smoothie Ingredients:
- 2 medium sized organic beets (325 g)
- bunch of beet greens (or spinach) (70 g)
- 1 small organic orange with rind (125 g)
- 1 organic medium carrot (95 g)
- 1 cube fresh organic ginger (14 g)
- 3/4 cup organic tart cherry juice
- 3/4 cup frozen unsweetened raspberries (75 g)
- natural monk fruit sweetener - 2 tbsp or to taste
Chop all the veggies and orange into chunks and place them into the blender. Reserve one slice of orange for a garnish. Add the 3/4 cup frozen raspberries.

On top of the veggies, pour in the 3/4 cup tart cherry juice.

Top it off with 2 tbsp of the monk fruit sweetener.

Close the lid to the blender and process it until everything is smooth and creamy. You may need to stop and open the lid a couple of times and push down the sides.

Once the mixture is all blended, pour it into a tall glass and garnish with the reserved orange slice.

A single serving is a healthy detox meal replacement at 391 calories. Or split it into 2 servings for 195 calories each. Drink to your health!
