Imagine living in a simple time where there was no food processing. Combine basic ingredients you foraged.
Ingredients like: sunflower seeds - known for B complex vitamins and a source of phosphorous, magnesium, iron, calcium, potassium, protein and vitamin E. ; flax seeds - with their omega-3 good fats for heart-healthy effects and antioxidant qualities; pumpkin seeds - a good source for phosphorous, magnesium, manganese and copper and other minerals and protein ; sesame seeds - provide vitamins and minerals such as calcium, iron vitamin B6, folate and protein. Some organic sauerkraut for nutrients and boost to the immune system. And a few free range eggs from your chicken for protein, vitamin B2, selenium, vitamin D, B6, B12 and minerals.
Stir it and bake it and out comes a magnificent nutritious nut loaf.
I found this package of seed mix in the natural foods section of the grocery store. This all natural packaged loaf mix is a seed mix that you can create yourself. To make your own seed mix for the nut loaf combine:
- 100 grams natural sunflower seeds
- 100 grams flax seeds
- 100 grams natural pumpkin seeds
- 50 grams sesame seeds
To make the healthy nut loaf, first gather the ingredients:
- 350 gram bag of Stone Age Loaf mix (or your own mix of seeds as listed above)
- 3 medium free-range eggs
- 1/4 cup (50 ml) organic extra virgin olive oil
- 1/2 cup (100 ml) organic sauerkraut
Place all the ingredients in a medium bowl and stir until combined.
Oil and cover a loaf pan with parchment paper.
Preheat the oven to 325 F.
Transfer the combined loaf mix from the bowl, into the prepared loaf pan.
Place the pan into the preheated 325 F oven for 60 minutes.
Once the nut loaf is baked, allow it to cool completely before removing from the pan and slicing.
Use the parchment paper to help lift the nut loaf from the pan. Then peel it away.
If divided into 16 slices, one slice is calculated to be 170 nutritious calories.
A half slice in only an 85 calorie protein nut bar that has no sugar or artificial ingredients. Smear some natural almond butter on it for more nut protein goodness.
Try it with some avocado slices for some plant-based healthy oils and protein.
A filling, paleo, gluten-free nut loaf that tastes great alone or with healthy toppings only you need to decide which is your favourite!
